Yurok the "down river people" are a Native American tribe dated back more than 10,000 years ago located along the coast of the Western United States, mainly in the Northern California area. During the gold rush in the mid 1800's, the Yurok were troubled with disease and massacres that decreased the population by 76%. In 1855, most of those that remained were forcibly relocated to the Yurok Indian Reservation on the Klamath River. The Yurok have the largest Native American population in the state of California, 5000 which live on the Yurok Indian Reservation. For additional information and the Yurok tribe website click here.
