Vivian Hailstone
From Native American Information Superhighway Alltribes™ Wiki
Vivian Hailstone has been a permanent fixture in the Yurok Native American community in California for many years and is featured at several museums and has many accomplished awards. She has stressed the importance of education to many and states "My art is based on the traditional values and methods; it has evolved into a more modern form....I believe in art as a teaching tool to teach students the art of basketry or jewelry making. Seeing them accomplish something is most satisfying...I believe in education for our youth and for the educators about Indian people. Our history, which didn't stop with contact, is very important. We should not be kept back 200 years. The fact that we are productive, intelligent, artistic people living today is important."
